ACT OUTCOMES
Educational Outcomes - ACT
GED success to date is 80% of those
who take the test pass it. 85% of
youth clients return to home-school
classes after leaving ACT. Feedback
from the 380+ school districts consistently
shows students improve academic
achievements following ACT placements.
This is facilitated by our strong
communication and liaison with school
in aftercare phase due to good discharge
planning and communication, as well
as aftercare casework programs in
some jurisdictions
Recidivism - Luzerne County
recently conducted a recidivism
study on ACT with an added aftercare
program deigned by YSA and the
Luzerne JPO. About 40-50 youth
are in the aftercare program at
one time year round. Previously
recidivism was measured at 47%
for first offenders in this County.
Recidivism after ACT intensive
aftercare was reduced to 17%,
a remarkable outcome.
Chief of Bucks Co. Juvenile Probation,
Bill Ford, is the most experienced
with ACT outcomes - the program was
started in 1991 to relieve overcrowding
in the county’s juvenile detention
center.
Capacity - we average census
now of 225 beds.
About 300 combined beds will be available
in 2003.
Although these are low risk, staff
secure facilities, we are asked to
accept some medium risk clients who
comprise about 10% of all placements.
We are known for our willingness to
accommodate the need of public agencies.
